Fast Food

If fast food always came like this, America would be even more obese.

Public Enemies Costumes

public enemies
I recently saw Public Enemies, because how could I miss anything Johnny Depp? What kept me on the edge of my seat was not the action, though. It was the costumes. WOW. Pencil skirts, double-breasted trench coats, fedoras, pin-striped suits... they all go so well with Tommy Guns! If only I could get that soft, wavy, bobbed hair style that the women of the 30's sported ever so gracefully. But with Asian hair, that will never happen.

The pictures below were made possible by Colleen Atwood- head costume designer. She's won two Oscars for Memoirs of the Geisha and Chicago. In addition, she's done many Tim Burton films AND.... the upcoming NINE! (see previous post) I wish people still dressed like this.

Dirty Projectors

If you're looking for a good summer album to listen to, I'd recommend The Dirty Projectors- Bitte Orca. It's sunny, flirty and feel-good. It tickles your ears just as coke in a glass tickles your nose. Or if that analogy doesn't convince you... maybe Pitchfork will. My only gripe is track four. This album is very pop, but track four is pushing it in my opinion. That said, I do enjoy the male-female vocal tag team. It keeps everything interesting. Extra props to frontman David Longstreth for having a buttery smooth voice AND graduating from Yale. You do the Ivy Leagues well, Dave.

And yes, that makes two comparisons to food.

Listen to Bitte Orca here.

Something's missing...

This St. Kitts Island in the Caribbean- where my boyfriend will be working for a month. Why am I not there?

The countdown: four long weeks.

Wear Today, Gone Tomorrow

I recently signed up for Wear Today Gone Tomorrow- a place to "borrow" designer clothing. I say "borrow" in quotes because of course there is a price. Each piece of clothing can be rented at 10% of retail, without due dates or late fees. As soon as I find the appropriate occasion, I want to get my hands on these...

Otto E Mezzo (plus one half)

Federico Fellini's Otto e Mezzo (Eight and a Half) was made into a Broadway musical called Nine, back in the 80's. This November a movie version will be released, starring Daniel Day-Lewis as Guido Contini! Can a successful musical representation of Fellini's famous autobiographical film be accomplished?? I know I'm excited to find out.

Also, here's the original Otto e Mezzo American trailer.

David Downtown

If ever I get a portrait done, PLEASE let it be by David Downtown! His fashion illustrations are sassy, chic, and have a vintage feel. I adore them. All of them. I posted this picture because of the red accent.

Udon

I ate these noodles a year ago when I visited Tokyo. I haven't stopped thinking about them since.
